The Today show rarely comes close to Sunrise in the battle of breakfast TV ratings.
And Channel Seven producer Michael Pell has welcomed the healthy competition, while backing a campaign to bring Karl Stefanovic back to rival Nine’s Today show.

The soundbite was taken from a fiery interview between Pauline and Deborah Knight in May, where she blamed the blonde for the Nine show’s declining ratings.
When asked about rumours this is his ringtone, Michael admitted: ‘I play it a lot and people say it should be my ringtone because I play it so often.’
Michael began his position as executive producer of Sunrise in November 2010, replacing Adam Boland who left to create his own company.

In the interview the recording is from, Pauline blamed Deborah Knight for the Today show’s poor ratings following the sacking of Karl in December, 2018.
Her spray was prompted by Deborah asking her about One Nation’s falling support ahead the Federal Election.
The Queensland Senator didn’t miss a beat as she hit back at Deborah, attacking both the show’s ratings and her performance in Karl’s position.

‘I’ve actually gone up since the last election, unlike your show, Deb, since you have taken over you have gone down in your viewership,’ Pauline said.
